Did America move right? Only 21% of Americans, 32% of eligible voters, voted for a lurch right, and many were misinformed. Who are the 36% who didn’t vote? Has anyone taken a deep dive into that?
No you’re correct while dems did run to the right as they are ones to do the American hasn’t actually shifted to the right progressive policies were more popular a-crossed the board Kamala and the Dems unfortunately just ran a bad campaign and facilitated a genocide the only mandate that came out of this election was that Dems need to clean house(mostly) and actually become a party representative of the left not the center or Republican/lite
Thanks for this! I’m so glad you are on this platform, as a therapist who specializes in trauma this is spot on, meeting people where they are in way that opens up the possibility for them to be curious, to interrogate their relationship to the conditions around them takes skills & a lot of patience & ego-strengthening. I’ve recently started to work with formerly incarcerated men & when we explored the concept of abolition on some level, I was astonished by how these predominantly Black men were invested in violent systems of punishment & in the carceral system that harms them. As I imagine you know this complex & shaped by many factors but this is what I am most interested & curious about too, how do we get people who aren’t where we are intellectually because of this world’s design to open up & be invested in their own freedom? How to get ppl to rise above the narcissism & greed of their own survival. How to model & teach grown ppl who to empathize, etc. Like anything else, there are levels to this but this is what keeps me up at night. I hope to continue reading, learning from your experience on how we think critically about this work.
As someone who is not American but lived in the United States for several years, it has been my observation that America has consistently leaned towards the right regardless of the party in power. It is the only developed nation without universal healthcare; there is virtually no safety net for those who experience hardship; and it's a highly punitive country with the death penalty enforced in many states. Since the civil rights era, none of these issues have been addressed in any significant manner during Democrat administrations. In short, I do not believe that America has suddenly shifted further to the right due to Trump; it has always been this way.

Very well said - all of it. Thank you for this, and everything you do.
This is a fantastic analysis.
Truth. All of it. I see people unwilling to admit their racism all the damn time and it’s so depressing.
After a few months, I read this again. The truth in this analysis is even more compelling.

I'm right where I've been and watched the Dem Party move rightward to the point of losing enough voters to cost it the election.
